Public Chanukah Menorah Lighting
in Belmont Shore
 "Fire and Ice Extravaganza"
Sunday, December 1, 2013
4 p.m.
 Citibank parking lot
5354 East 2nd St.
Everyone is welcome. There will be live music, the SBTS Hebrew School choir and local dignitaries. All children in attendance will receive Chanukah treats.
"This is a unique and special event because this is the first time since 1890 that Chanukah and Thanksgiving overlap," Rabbi Perelmuter says. "And the two holidays will not overlap again for another century."

The reason Shul by the Shore chose to partner with the Belmont Shore Business Association and hold the event on 2nd St. "is because it is the hub of the community," Rabbi Perelmuter says. "There is always a lot of foot traffic - people walking along 2nd St. shopping, dining, walking and being entertained in a variety of ways. It is a busy, vibrant, exciting area."

This year's Chanukah Menorah Lighting falls on the fifth night of the celebrated Jewish holiday, which is also known as the Festival of Lights; it's an eight-day holiday commemorating the Maccabean revolt against its oppressors in the 2nd century.
The Chanukah Menorah Candle Lighting is a global celebration that takes place from Paris, London and Israel, to New York, Chicago and Long Beach.
SBTS, which has serviced the community for the past 20 years, holds its services at the Seaport Marina Hotel.

"This is the first public menorah lighting ever on 2nd Street in Belmont Shore - and we're elated to be the first ones to do it and to put this special event together with the help and support of the Shul by the Shore, its members, Citibank, and the Belmont Shore business community," says Rabbi Abba Perelmuter of The Shul by the Shore.  The event, which is called "Fire and Ice Extravaganza," is co-sponsored by the Belmont Shore Business Association.

Everyone is welcome. There will be live music, the SBTS Hebrew School choir and  local dignitaries. All children in attendance will receive Chanukah treats.
